This is Darlene. David and Travis are cooking dinner (nice!) and have left me to spend some time writing. I'm glad that we have a weekend to process and get over jetlag.
Our place is really nice -- but definitely not "lived-in." We're still in the process of unpacking and it's going to take a pretty big shopping trip to get the kitchen stocked up. It makes a difference to know we're going to be here for a while (and that we're here together). I think sometimes when I go on these work trips, I endure them. I don't settle in, I don't try to eat well or even really live well. I'd like to see if that can change on this trip. Not that everything has to be perfect, but I'd like to learn better how to savor the time. I think being here with David will help. And it's absolutely awesome to have Travis here--embodying the Advent community and living life here with us.
We've been here a few days but have already encountered situations that require patience and creativity, whether it's finding a way to pay our apartment bill, how to order taxis (and how not to order more than one), and any number of minor annoyances. Definitely praying that we react to these situations with patience and good humor!
There's a lot more to say, but I'll leave more for another post.
