After visiting a church in the morning where a visiting preacher from Australia showed a clip from Schindler's List, we headed off to visit an elephant orphanage. On the outskirts of Nairobi, the facility takes orphaned elephants and nurtures them back to health and eventually helps them rejoin the wild herds.
The photos and videos that follow are a meager attempt to demonstrate the absolute cuteness of the elephants:
Darlene and Travis showing the location of the baby milk. According to the guide, the elephants "drink a vegetable-based human milk formula" because it was easier to digest than cow milk which has too much fat for elephants. Supposedly elephants do not digest fats well.
The milk being delivered prior to the arrival of the orphans.
They arrive in a way that says, MILK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eventually, they calm down and simply drink.
With a little help....
Though the help is unnecessary.
A-dor-able. There were a couple babies just a few months old. They wear the blanket on their back in order to keep warm. We have a ton of pictures from our time with the elephants and will try to find a way to include a link to our web album tomorrow for those who would want to see more.
Tomorrow will probably be slightly different as Travis and I begin work with Jesuit Refugee Services, and Darlene heads back to the embassy. May God be with us and with you.

I love the elephants! Hopefully you won't see this comment twice; I don't know how to work this thing
